Enameling

In January I will be taking an enameling class from Margaret Langdell at the Brookline Arts Center. I have never worked in enamels before so I am very much looking forward to it. I have some ideas for enameling my anticlasts as well so stay tuned to see what I learn.

Anticlastic Pendant

I am finally beginning to create pieces that are satisfying to me using the new skills I acquired in the Micheal Good class I took a few months ago. Here is a sample pendant I created using anticlastic raising as well as fold forming. I really like fold forming. I can see myself pursuing that direction more as the metal can be be formed very quickly and in an interesting manner. For more on fold forming check out Charles Lewton Brain.

Anticlastic Raising

Last month I was lucky enough to take a class at Metalwerx with the master of anticlastic raising, Micheal Good.
I now have a whole new relationship with metal to work through. He makes it look so very easy but it is anything but that. He likened it to learning the notes on a musical instrument and then learning to play a symphony. That is a great comparison!
Hopefully one day I will have something lovely to show but for now it is: Practice, practice, practice.

Welcome!

Thanks for stopping in to visit my website. I am a fine artist, graphic designer and jewelry designer.
Since I started working in metal a few years ago it has become my favorite medium to work in. I love the feel of the metal. I love watching it change with heat, saw or hammer.
I have studied at Metalwerx, The School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Mass College of Art. I continue to grow as a jewelry designer in a field with so many amazing techniques to explore and learn.
You will find my jewelry for sale at www.robertawa.etsy.com. Check it out at the link to the right!
