Ultrasuede added

BJPJanuary2011, originally uploaded by Roberta Warshaw.

So right off some mistakes were made here.

The main mistake was that I cut the Lacy's to size and it became very hard to work right up to the edge.

I had purchased a few pieces of Ultrasuede so I glued and basted the piece to the Ultrasuede. I love the color of the Ultrasuede. it is very rich and luscious. Plus now I can get a grip and am able to bead up to the edges. I still haven't figured out the best way to edge this. I'll have to wait until the beads are all in place and then see what I want to do with the border. I don't want the white of the Lacy's to show.

I am thinking that this might make a nice bag or something. Not quite sure yet since I am so inexperienced and don't know exactly where this will lead.

How big is your work? How about a brooch? Good luck. Mistakes help us to learn.

The piece itself is 3 x 3. I suppose it could be a brooch, but it may be a little big. Right now I am just trying to figure out a good stitch to cover the edge where the Lacy's meets the ultrasuede. Thanks so much for your suggestions!

I did exactly the same thing with my first cuff and it was too short lengthwise to fit on the brass insert. I believe the backing shortened from my stitching being too tight. I handstitched a small piece of Lacy's to one end, fortunately, it all worked out.
It was plenty frustrating at the time though. You are certainly right, I learned from that mistake.
I now buy my backing from Beadwright - She has all colours so the step of colouring the background can be eliminted.

I really, really like this piece and interesting addition of adding the ultra suede. Even though it's added to work with I think you'll end up keeping the blue around the piece. Very nice! Of course your beading is wonderful! I love the placing of your innovative!

Thanks so much for leaving the thoughtful comment on my blog.:))
Happy Holidays.

It's lovely. The Ultrasuede is so vibrant and complementary. It could be an amulet bag. Thanks for commenting on my blog.

I've never used Lacy's, and I know I'd have a few things to learn if I tried it. This is a *lovely* piece, I like it's "flow" and am looking forward to seeing it when done!
