March BJP 2011

March BJP 2011, originally uploaded by Roberta Warshaw.

March is done. Although I find myself wishing March was really done as in the month of March itself.

I don’t like the piece as much as my other pieces. It seems dull and drab in comparison. But then that is how March is for me. Dull and drab. At least here in Massachusetts. We want to believe that spring is coming but March usually comes in like a lion and goes out as one as well.

March is the month when I get out my black marker and start crossing the days off the calendar and obsessively looking at the thermometer in the hopes it will get above 40 degrees.

Gray, windy, cold. That sums up my piece I think.

I don't think this piece is drab OR dull. I like the way the gold is breaking up the white. I think it represents the snow and ice breaking up and melting away leaving more space for the golden warmth of the sun to penetrate the earth. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! lol Now if only that would actually happen.....

I really really like it, Roberta. Especially the color combination...and it says 'rich' to me, as in rich in promise and rich in lusciousness. Gorgeous work, again!!!

I never would have thought drab and dull if I hadn't read your post. I think it's very pretty. I hope March turns out better than you expect.

Ditto Ditto Ditto to all of the above. I love your subject matter and I agree that your color combination is really "rich". Very nice.

Thank you everyone for your thoughtful comments. On my other pieces I think I used more "shiny" colors, hence the perceived "dullness".

You know what? It has an Aztec feel about it. I am thinking temples and rain forest etc. I like it!

Not drab for me either. It may not be as 'shiny' as your others, but the gold gives an impression of being gilded. Also, all that impeccable beading is so impressive!

I like that! It has a certain elegance about it.

I think it's beautiful, not drab, not dull.
:)
(by the way, it seems some of Wordpress's email notifications aren't going out, so if you've been waiting for posts/comments from me and not got any, that's why.)

This doesn't strike me as dull or drab at all!
When I saw it - I thought 'Egyptian'....the flowers have that look to me..I think this is a very striking entry!

Thanks for stopping by blog. Old fat finger (that's me) accidentally deleted your comment. I didn't realize old linoleum had asbestos in it. Yikes.

I really like your march piece are you staying with this color sceme for the year? That will be very challenging. I look forward to seeing them all. Analisa

LOL!! I know exactly what you're saying about March here in New England :-) I grew up in PA, where it truly *did* go out like a lamb, but here...not so much!

I very much enjoyed seeing your bead embroidery for the first time. It doesn't look drab to me, but subdued, as March SHOULD be. I think that the gold adds just the right touch of hope (that spring will come again someday). I also enjoyed your lovely Arizona pictures......especially because it is my home. Anita
