Sick Again

Well, here I am. Sick again.

This time it is the cough that everyone seems to be spewing around the office. Why don't people stay home when they are sick. I don't get it. The other day a friend of mine was telling me about a co-worker who brought her sick child into the office because day care doesn't take sick kids. HUH? So just bring them to the office and let them spew all their germs there. Nice.

So far I have been sick every month since November. Frankly it is getting old. Part of the problem is stress. I know that. I have a lot of stress in my life. All I want to do is be in my studio making things but it seems there is always some other responsibilty eating into my time.

Do I sound angry and annoyed. I guess I am. Between work, and family stuff there seems to be less and less time for me. Am I being selfish. Well maybe. But I need to reduce my stress. I just don't know how to do that.

Sorry for taking up your time venting. I know you don't come here for that.

Oh Roberta, feel better soon and start doing things for you like, movies, books, blogs, etc. even if it is just one of those a day. A little at a time. You've got to get your resistance back up. Cheer up bunky.

Hey you!

You're not 'complaining'. You're sharing how you feel and that's not a bad thing. I think that as women/caregivers/point of navigation for our families & friends & co-workers(and co-bloggers!) we feel we're acting badly if we vent our frustrations.

Don't feel badly! :-)

I agree with allaboutcreatings comment. Set aside consistant time for yourself. Even if only a half hour to start. A little is better than none. More is better of course, but any time you claim for yourself without fail will (I bet) help the way you feel. Some weeks can I only claim a half hour totally to myself, doing what I choose to do. But knowing I'll have that block of time, looking forward to it every day (unless the world is ending, lol) helps a lot.

Remember, if you don't replenish yourself, you'll eventually have nothing to give to all those you love and to other necessary responsibilities. So in fact taking time for yourself is not so much taking away from others as it is assuring you'll be able to continue to be there for them....

PS Hope you soon feel better healthwise also.
Not feeling well is exhausting in and of itself. This winter has been epic for horrid weather and illness....
Time for both to go away!

It just finished going through my house. Hope it doesn't last long.

Now, here's the soap box..people don't stay home for a couple of reasons depending on the situation...

They don't get sick pay ( I don't)
They fear they will lose their job (my daughter almost did after being off two days)
Their work piles up while they are gone and its stressful to try to catch up (me again!)
Must use vacation time when you are off, no matter what the cause (me AND my husband)

OK, jumping down now.

You do need to take care of yourself and if you're getting sick each month, needless to say you know what you need to do. STRESS does cause so many issues with us...I know...I was there this past week!! Plz take care!!! If you don't take time out for yourself, you won't be any good to anyone else!!

cyber hugs to you roberta. i too, have a graphic design background...during the years i was practicing i had lots of stress too (did i say lots?!) some gentle advice to you—lessons from the road i traveled, is this—listen to your body. it is trying to tell you something. it took me a decade to find my way to my true art-loves because i wouldn't listen for so many's okay to want to be in the studio all the time. perhaps this is what you were made for...dream and start working towards making this happen and one day, it will come to pass. get well soon, jan

Pei pa koa is pretty decent cough medicine (from herbal as I remembered), great non alcoholic medicine, some western cough medicine are more effective, but this is non drowsy.

My mother's recipe to conquer colds and flus:

1. In a cup of boiling water pour 1T of honey and four slices of lemon and orange.

2. Keep drinking this concoction, and before you start a new cup, eat the slices of citrus, and add new ones to the cup.

Afte a day of drinking this potion, you'll feel better.

And yes, stress is a major culprit.
