Summer is Here at Last!

Beads using Kato clay, originally uploaded by Roberta Warshaw.

First of all, let me just say how amazing the weather has been over the last few days. I have been riding my bike every day this week (well except Monday, Monday sucked).

All the windows and doors are open. I cannot believe it. I had a feeling it would come eventually but honestly, it was so bad for so long I had almost given up!

Needless to say, I have not been spending much time in the studio! But enough to try Kato clay. At first I thought the stuff was just awful. It is very crumbly and gets all over the place. But once it finally gets conditioned and starts coming together it is like nothing else. The beads above are made with it. I don't think you can tell the difference once they are baked. It is really all in the handling.

Very nice. I'll have to get some more.

This weekend is my dad's 90th birthday.

We are having a Memorial Day BBQ in his honor with all the fixings! Then in 2 weeks my parents finally move into assisted living here where I live. I am very excited about having them so close by and with lots of people around. They have been isolated out in the 'burbs for too long. The suburbs may be a good place to raise a family but for aging it is a different story. Every time my dad gets behind the wheel to go to the store it fills me with worry.

Once they are here in town, they won't need or want to drive anywhere. Everything is right here within 2 or 3 blocks. It is actually faster to walk around here than to drive! I am quite sure they will miss their Walmart and Target but hey, we just don't have those things here and it is too far to drive to get to them. So they will have to be happy with Trader Joe's, Star Market, and Whole Foods! Plenty of CVS's and Walgreen's and so many restaurants!
I know they will love it.
The best part is they will have people around. New friends and lots of family.
So there is much to do and to look forward to!
Happy summer everyone!

It's so good that you still have your folks and that they will be close to you! Happy summer to you too, and happy 90th to your Dad!
