Postcard Swap

Today was a very exciting day for me. I received my first postcard in the mail from Linda Kittmer, a wonderful fiber artist from Canada. You can find her blog here. She even decorated the reverse side of her postcard which is something I never thought to do with mine. Next time I will try that. It is like getting 2 postcards instead of just one.

I knew it would be exciting to find a treasure in my mailbox but I wasn't expecting to feel so elated over it. There is really something special about sending and receiving artwork from and to a perfect stranger. It reminds me a little bit of when I was a kid and we had pen pals from all around the world. This is a new version of that tradition and I am finding it quite exhilarating and refreshing.

Especially after yesterday.  My son took my grandson snowboarding in New Hampshire and I got the phone call we all dread. My son broke his wrist and we had to go up and drive him home. It was 2 hours up (we left at around 3PM). Then there was all the waiting around for x-rays, casting etc. Then we had to drive another half hour to the ski resort to pick up his car. Then the 2 hour drive home in the pitch dark on black icy roads. We didn't get home until 10 at night. My grandson was a real trooper. Poor kid. I think he felt really bad since it was he who crashed into my son. We brought my daughter with us and she drove my son and his car back here to Boston. It was a long grueling day and night.

My son will need surgery on his wrist. I am hoping he can get it done very quickly since it will start to heal incorrectly. It isn't his first break. In 2000 he broke his other wrist and in 2005 he broke his ankle. Ahhhh snowboarding. You want your kids to enjoy life but at what cost? Anyway he isn't really a kid anymore at 40 years old.

Well, at least I have my postcard projects to keep me occupied while we wait for the surgery to be over and he can begin to heal.

Hi Roberta,

Sorry about your son's incident. There is just another example of life giving lemons away. I know just how you feel about giving and receiving postcard art. I have been sending out postcards for over a year now and love it when a new one comes in the mail. I also have been involved in two ATC groups and that is totally fun to go to the mailbox each month to find a new ATC.

I don't know if you do PhotoShop or not, but I have been scanning some of my journal work for postcards. I get two sides by using the print option called Duplex under properties.

Love your Etsy site and blog.

Roberta, thank you so much for this lovely shout out about my postcard and my blog. Sorry to hear about your son. Our oldest son just broke 5 ribs snowmobiling so I know the worry!
