While I Was Sleeping......

Perched Bird Card by Roberta Warshaw
Perched Bird Card, a photo by Roberta Warshaw on Flickr.
I do love it when I wake up in the morning and something from my shop has sold while I was sleeping. It gives me such a great feeling and inspires me to work. Not that I don't work when I am not making some money. Clearly if you saw my studio and all the unsold work in it you would be appalled!

But it does help. It makes me realize that, hey, there are people out there who like my art enough to buy it. I find it very encouraging. Especially since I don't have time to do shows, or put my work in galleries. The internet is all I have!

In a way I am reminded of something from my past  in the early 1970's when we lived in Key West, Florida.

I used to make hand drawn cards even back then. At the end of the day I would ride my bike to Mallory Square where everyone gathered to watch the sun go down. There were musicians, and acrobats. Mimes and food vendors. And artists like me selling their wares. I always sold something and I made many good friends that way.

It was a wonderful experience. Now at the end of the day instead of riding my bike to sunset, I upload my art to the interwebs and wait for people to find me. Not as much fun, I will admit but it is still a nice way to end the day and feel productive.

This card is available for purchase in my Etsy Shop here.

It's always rewarding to make a little $$ at something you love. Makes it seem like the world is right.

I agree with Ann -- I'm not at all surprised! You do such amazing work. <3

Also, this is a random thought, but this piece would make a great book cover. It would go really well with a book of short stories... maybe scary stories?

your cards are beautiful. I'm at our cabin on Orcas Island in the San Juans right now and am encircled with beautiful birds, so I'm finding your cards to be especially charming. What a small world that you spent time with David Wegman in Florida. Thanks for stopping by Splendid Market, I'm going to drop into your shop.
