Got Tucson!

Ventana Canyon
Believe it or not this trail is right out back behind the condo we rented this year. I think I told you that we usually stay at the Westward Look when we come out here to Tucson but this year since we wanted to come out for two weeks we decided to find a condo. I was a little nervous renting a place sight unseen but I found this place on VBRO and just went for it. I spoke with the owner by telephone and she seemed very nice. We have all heard of all the scams out there so it was hard not to worry but as it turned out the condo is very real and very lovely in a perfect setting. We will come back again to it next year!

Out in back is the trail for the Ventana Canyon trail. It is rated extremely difficult so I never made it to the top but some of it is fairly flat, and so I did maybe a mile of it. Anyway it is a good walk! I did see a rather large kitty footprint and it was then that I turned back since I was hiking alone! The trail is used a lot so I was never really alone. Lots of people passing me up and down!

Yesterday we had a lovely visit with an artist I have long admired, Beata Wehr.  We bought one of her lovely encaustic paintings. She is currently having a show at the Tucson Botanical Gardens. If you have an opportunity to see it you really should. Her work is wonderful and she is a very nice person as well!

Oh, and we also became members of Tohono Chul Park. Now we can go there as many times as we want. The most beautiful place I know.

Well, off to go hiking. Too nice to stay in! Talk soon!

Going, going, gone.......

We are off tomorrow for two glorious weeks in Tucson! I am very excited to go for two weeks this year. We will get to do more new things as well as a few of our old favorites. Tohono Chul Park is an all time favorite for one. We never miss that place. I could sit there all day and draw and I have done that before. And then onto Tuscon Botanical Gardens to see the lovely gardens as well as the Beata Wehr show in the gallery.

We are going to try and go to Phoenix to see Chihuly at the Desert Botanical Gardens as well as a trip to Bisbee. We have never been to either place before.

And we will see all our friends who spend the entire winter out there. Lucky them!

I am only bringing two sketchbooks and my Pitt pens, Pigma pens and white gel pens. It will be hard to live with only these few supplies but I will do a ton of drawing which is always a good thing to work out the kinks that have been manifesting themselves lately.  I have been a bit uninspired. I think it is the winter doldrums setting in. Hopefully a few hikes up Sabino Canyon will help!

I may post a blog from out there. I am bringing my computer after all. Can't live without that! Although I must say I do miss the pre-computer days sometimes.

Mostly I can't wait to see the sun! Oh and the blue, blue sky. What a treat that will be.

See you soon!

Going Soon.....

Getting ready to leave on Saturday for Tucson. I cannot wait. This winter has been brutal. So much snow and cold. I just hope our flight doesn't get cancelled as so many have.

So if you don't hear anything from me, I will post when I return!

Online Class

Today was the final lesson for the Extreme Composition class. I will probably do the projects for this last lesson but I'll see how I feel. I have a lot going on right now and when I am in my studio for those precious few minutes each day I only want to do my own work and not the class.

I think it is because the last few lessons have just not been that interesting to me. The work is just not my style or way of working and I can't make myself like it enough to do it.

I have been working hard when I can on getting the feel for layering and color with the acrylics. I am slowly getting more comfortable with them. I bought some glazing liquid and just love it! It is much nicer than using water for glazes! The colors stay truer.

I am also getting geared up for our annual trip to Tucson. This year we have rented a condo for two weeks. I think this will be better than staying in a hotel. We can make our own meals or go out. We are not tied to the restaurant routine. That gets old fast.

I bought some new Pitt pens and a couple of new sketch books. I always love to sketch when I am away on vacation. It is really the best time for me to draw since I can't bring paints. It is just me and the sketch book. I especially love drawing on the plane. Once we get out west the aerial views are astounding and interesting to me.

Hopefully everyone here can live without me for two weeks. I am taking my mom grocery shopping this weekend so she doesn't run out of food. My grandson better remember his keys or he will be locked out in the cold.

Ah the cold. Two weeks without it is going to be a real treat!

I will most likely post again at least one more time before I leave!

Behind the Eight Ball

I am so behind in my Extreme Composition class! I seem to be stuck in Lesson #3 and we are up to Lesson #5.

I can't seem to stop trying out different textures and shapes. So I am not going to stop. I will keep going until I am ready to move on. That is the point, correct? To learn as much as I can to move forward in my art.

I have all the lessons in PDF form so I can do the lessons at my own pace.

Berries and the Internet

Berries by Roberta Warshaw

I posted this painting a couple of days ago and for some reason, which I have yet to figure out, it has generated thousands of views on my Flickr page.

I have no idea what is going on.

But today is my birthday so perhaps a gift from the birthday gods. That and the 50 degree weather.

Enjoy your day!
