Poolside Vacation Sketches

Pods 4
These are just some sketches I made poolside while on vacation in the Berkshires. They are done in Caraon D'Arche Neocolor II Wax crayons. I love sketching with these as the colors are luscious especially when you wet them with water in a water brush. It is then that the colors and shadings really come alive. Perhaps these will become inspirations for new pieces or perhaps they are just nothing more than obsessive pool sketching.

Whatever they are I enjoyed making them.

Almost Vacation

Negative Shapes
I have been trying for a while to work in negative shapes but I don't find it at all easy. This is a sort of successful attempt. Although it still looks derivative to me and much like many other pieces I see done this way. In other words I have not found my "negative shape" voice yet. This piece did invlove much scraping back and sanding. I like that aspect of it very much.

Anyway, I am getting ready for our annual trip out to the Berkshires on Saturday. I love it out there but I won't have my paints and that is the part I don't like. Of course I will have pens, paper, and anything else that is not too messy so I will do a lot of sketching. There are lovely gardens in the house we rent so I will have plenty to draw and keep me busy.

I am also looking forward to seeing the new and improved Clark Art Museum in Williamstown. Apparently it is quite a sight now with all the new renovations! And of course we will take a trip up to Mass MOCA. Always an exciting event with so much to see and inspire.

Speaking of renovations, our bathroom has finally been remodeled. We have been waiting for the contractor to come since we hired him back in November! But it looks nice and was worth the wait. Now the second bathroom looks dated and we will have to do that one too at some point. Maybe next year.

Anyway, I will see you in two weeks. Enjoy summer!
