4/22/16

The last few days here in Tucson have been rather warm. In the 90's to be exact. Both my grandson and I have had terrible colds as well. So we haven't been as active as we usually are when we are here.

Yesterday we visited The San Xaviar Del Bac Mission and it was a very rewarding experience. The last time we visited the inside of the chapel it was covered in scaffolding. This time the renovations were finished and we basked in the glorious work!

Across from the mission there is a plaza where members of the Tohono O'odham Nation (the mission is on the reservation) sell lovely handmade items. We met a very interesting man named Joe Begay who is not only a wonderful metalsmith but an actor as well and has been in many, many movies. He regaled us with stories about this movie and that actor! It was really fun. I bought a lovely pair of earrings from him as well.

Up until we met Joe I think my grandson was slightly bored but the conversation definitely picked up the pace and he enjoyed it immensely! After all it was the first time he had ever been on a Native American reservation and chatted with a Native American. Better than reading about it in textbooks.

Tonight we are going to be at a Seder at our friends house and then tomorrow we have to leave to head back to Boston. We are always so sad to leave here. It is the hardest thing we have to do. I did manage to buy a desk and chair for my studio here so it feels more like home each time we come. Next time I will buy some book shelves for my art supplies and books.

Oh wow! This was an amazing place to see. So I had to Google Joe Begay and do recognize him as an actor we have seen. It looks like he is quite a presence there and was a cool person for your grandson to meet. Sorry you couldn't stay out west longer.
