Finally I am back in my studio! Hooray! It has been many, many, months. I am still sharing my studio with the workmen as they need someplace to park all their tools but at least I have my new closet and a corner to work in and set up my scanner.

I decided to take a couple of classes in order to get me moving in a direction again. When I am away from my art for such a long period of time I have trouble getting going again. The only thing I can be sure of is that I will be going in a different direction than the one I last ended on. It is just the way I am.

The first class I am taking is a collage class with Randal Plowman. He has a great following and I already have his book so I feel like this will be a good start for me. And I love collage and I still have a ton of old gelatin prints I can use as collage fodder.

I have also signed up for a painting class with Este Macleod which will begin in October. So I think that between the two classes I will have the opportunity to gather new ideas and get moving again.

The second lesson of the class with Randall was to make a series of collages using just one color.  The two pieces above are from that lesson.

Have a lovely long weekend everyone!

I know it has been a few weeks since I last wrote anything but honestly, there isn't much to tell. I still do not have my studio yet. I can't paint or work outside as it is much too hot. So I am biding my time.

Also, tomorrow I leave to go back to Boston to visit my mom who is ailing. I am planning to stay until Monday but I cannot be certain of anything right now.

I hate the idea of spending 2 days in airports and planes. I was hoping I would be done with all that back and forth traveling but who was I kidding?  There is a price to pay when you move 2600 miles away from family.  I really hate to leave here even for a long weekend. I am just so at home here and going back to Boston I will have to stay in a hotel and spend $$$ on Uber getting around.

But I am trying to make the best of it. Hopefully when I get back here my studio will be all ready for me and I can paint again. It has literally been months now since I have painted. A very long time. Too long. I have been making mandalas and things like that but I am antsy for paint and knives and brushes. As well as mixing my own colors again. Something you cannot do with pens and markers.

When I return I hope to get back to my studio practice.

The porch is finally finished! What a difference the extra 3 feet make! Now we can fit our table over on this side of the porch and we have room for the grill and my bike on the other side. They did a really great job. We couldn't be happier. I love being outside. Especially in the shade since I can't and wouldn't want to spend too much time in the sun. There are two ceiling fans out here so in the summer you can usually sit out until noon. And since it is right outside my studio I can bring my art out to the table if I choose to paint outside!

Outside table and chairs on new floor.

The rest of the work on the condo continues. My studio is getting a new tile floor next week or the week after and then I can bring out my paints and supplies again. Until then I continue to draw and make flowers and mandalas. The geometry is keeping me busy!

Here is one of my recent geometric mandalas:

That is all I have for now! Have a great week!
